Candy

We have more candy right now than we know what to do with, and Halloween isn't even here yet. Between trunk or treat, the black walnut festival, and maybe even some labor day candy, we are swimming in it. Our kids hardly ever eat any of it, which is good, but the down side is that there is no one to hide it from me. I haven't seen any Ju Ju Be type stuff but I have been going crazy on the sweet tarts and pixie sticks. On the plus side my back is feeling much better so my plan is to be back in the gym on Monday. Hopefully I can keep my hand out of the bad until then.

Research

Do you have any good research on weight loss pills? If you do, please send me a link. I'm curious to read it. I haven't tried them and typically choose to use more conventional means for weight control but I'm curious as to how they work and what affects they have when you take them. Obviously they aren't all the same so I'll be interested in a wide variety of ideas. Thanks in advance for any info you can find for me on the topic. If I get enough info I may write some sort of review.

So Much For That

Well it looks like the Browns are back to being irrelevant again. They looked absolutely terrible yesterday and are now staring at a 3 game deficit to a much better Steelers team. Time to start thinking about draft picks. Throw the rest of the games and ensure a top draft pick and then try again next year. While you're at it, trade one of these QB's and pick up some more defensive help. With a little luck, we might have a slightly less dissapointing season next year, but I'm not counting on it.

This Old PC

Man this computer is getting slow. I've thought about asking for someone to buy memory for it but I'm getting a new one soon enough that it probably isn't worth the effort. It's hard when I have so many memory intensive things running at ones. I find myself shutting down everything in the system tray to free up every last shred. Hopefully soon my new pc will be here and I will no longer have to deal with this. It will be nice to hum along at an even pace once again.

New Life?

The Browns suprised me greatly this week. I had actually picked them to lose to the tune of a 45-17 score. After the way the Giants dismantled them in the preseason, coupled with their less than lackluster play of late, it isn't surprising why I felt that way. As it turned out, they proved me wrong, which is a great thing. They looked like the team that I expected after last year. They have a lot of talent but until this week hadn't shown any of it. My only hope is that it will last. Can they continue to play this well?

This week they have to travel to DC to play the Redskins. Another tough assignment given that the skins are coming off of a bad loss. The Browns will need to keep their heads in check and play like underdawgs again if they want to keep this rolling. They need to go on a run here in the next few weeks if they want to get back into the division race. Pittsburg is catchable, given all their injury issues so the Browns need to take advantage.

Here's hoping for another big win this weekend!

Bad For Business

You have to wonder if the casino owners out in las vegas are a bit worried right now. Most people aren't going to have a lot of disposable income for a while I don't think. The sad thought that just occurred to me though is that a lot of people will probably spend their last dollars in the hopes of getting rich quick and just end up poorer than they were to begin with. Entertainment industries are going to suffer as much as anything else I think. I bet even pro athletes aren't going to get the size of contracts that they once did, just because the teams won't be able to afford them anymore.

Yum

I love baking at Christmas time. My sister and mom and I used to have a baking day every year in which we would make rock candy, Christmas cookies, fudge, and even caramels. It was a blast for us every year. We've started doing that with our kids as well but so far just with the cookies. I'm not sure I trust them around hot molten sugar just yet. That stuff is a WHD (weapon of holiday destruction) if I've ever seen one. I just hope that our kids grow up to love Christmas as much as I did. My mom and dad did a great job of that for us, and it didn't really have anything to do with what we got.

Upgrades

We did a lot of home improving to our old house in order to get it sold. We replaced the kitchen counters, the bathroom sink and counter, painted all over and even redid the bathroom floors. We even picked out new bathroom lighting for the master. In then end it all worked out and we got it sold. Sometimes I wonder if we could have gotten away with not doing anything at all, but I guess we'll never know for sure. I just wish that we could have avoided the septic tank issues. That wasn't cool.

Hot n Cold

My wife and I have very differing views on what constitutes a comfortable temperature. For me, around 67 or 68 is about perfect these days. For her it's closer to 78. So naturally we have some thermostat wars from time to time. One of the solutions we came up with was a dual electric blanket or mattress cover in our case. It works out great because we can turn the thermostat down for me and she can still bake like a potato at night if she wishes. It's all about the right solution sometimes.

Forceful

Some things just never run out of cool. Take magnets for instance. Who could ever get tired of playing with them? Even the guy on Mythbusters loves them. He actually has a licsense to get the really extra powerful ones that could take your hand off if you aren't careful. Personally I could see that as being really fun, but I can't imagine a real use for them besides just goofing around. Besides, I like my hands. So what else can you think of that never runs out of cool?

Over There

It's amazing to me that our world is so hugely interconnected in this day and age. The American economic crisis is having a huge affect on the rest of the world. I don't even have a passport but business sure do. Iceland may go bankrupt as a side affect of all this turmoil. It's kind of scary in a way. There are no longer any isolated hubs for survival if one area fails. We are all going to succeed or fail together. The sooner we learn that lesson on a global scale, the better. Hopefully we won't have to learn it the hard way.
