I have a problem. I'm a Browns fan and have been as long as I can remember. I lived through John Elway and Ernest Byner and the move and everything else. So naturally when it comes to Browns games I have anger management issues.
The only way that I can maintain my "nice guy" persona is to turn off the games as soon as they are "over". If I were to watch any more from that point on, I tend to have reactions that are not very nice to be around. Not swearing or anything, but definitely yelling combined with a few projectiles.
Yesterday was especially dangerous as I was listening to the game in the car, with a sleeping wife, 2 year old and our 3 year old listening to everything I might say. So as any self respecting Browns fan who is sick of their profound ability to annoy the crud out of their fans would do, I turned the game off as soon as Baltimore had a first down on the Browns 40 yard line with only a minute left in the game.
Clearly Baltimore who had been cutting through the Browns defense like butter would run the ball a few times to get the clock down to about 4 seconds and then kick a chip shot field goal from about the 10. There was no longer any reason to listen, the game was over. (I did turn it on for one brief moment, only to confirm that Stover had indeed made the kick but that was it)
I spent the rest of the afternoon annoyed at how they had blown double digit leads two weeks in a row and now could forget about a shot a the playoffs. I even considered that they might bring in Brady Quinn now that the post season was a serious long shot.
Later my Dad asked me if I saw the game and I told him that I heard enough to know that they lost, and that was about it. He then tells me what really happened. Thanks a lot Browns, this is all your fault. I missed one of the better moments in Browns history because of.......well, Browns history. There was no reason to believe that they would make a comeback like that. None whatsoever. I'm almost angry that they won.
So now guess what? I'm going to feel obliged to watch the end of next weeks game which will probably cause me to throw something and act like an idiot. All because of this craziness. I can't even count on the Browns to stink when they are supposed to. They are just totally unreliable.
In the end, I'll take the win, but I'm going to have to do some serious calming exercises from now on in order to get through the rest of the season.
